Started playing double bass as a teenager, later adding
bass guitar to his choice of instruments.
In 1962 took his own quartet to play in Europe, and on return emigrated to Perth Western Australia.
In Perth Mike worked for one of the major music stores and played in various jazz and popular music groups. Highlights included being chosen for a series of jazz programmes broadcast on Australian T.V.
On his return to the UK, Mike was based in the Sheffield area with its lively
jazz scene where he played with several local bands and accompanied many
well-known jazz soloists.
He teamed up with drummer Pete Ashmore in 2001 when the idea of TRIAD was
formed.
Mike’s musical tastes are varied, but he does favour Jazz, Fusion and Latin.
Among the bass players he appreciates are Marcus Miller bass guitar, and the
late Niels Pedersen double bass and Jaco Pastorius fretless bass guitar.
